Just last week I moved about 700 miles. I hate moving! It’s so stressful no matter what time of year you move, but winter has to be the worst season by far. Thankfully it wasn’t snowing though!

And a winter PCS move can be even more difficult, but there are so many resources available for military families to make things easier. Each move is different and no matter how long you’ve been in the military, there is always something new to learn and prepare for.

Preparing for a move 90+ days in advance is always ideal, but let’s face it. The military doesn’t always give us 90 days notice. But either way, things will work out in the end. But to help you during the process, I recently read a really helpful article by CORT on the Top 7 Tips for a Winter PCS Move.  CORT gives some great resources and tips for making a winter PCS move easier.

Here’s a few of my favorite tips covered in the article.

1. Connect early

Moving to a new area comes with a lot of challenges and meeting new friends is one of them. It can get very lonely when you don’t know anyone and military spouses can suffer the most. Connecting with people that will be in your area before you move can do a world of wonders for your mental health. Facebook groups are AMAZING for connecting with new people.

2. Lighten up

Every time I move I tell myself I’m not going to accumulate a bunch of unnecessary things, but I always do anyway! Instead of trying to move a bunch of things you don’t need with you, lighten your load and get rid of all the things you don’t use anymore or never did but intended too (so me ?).

3. Use military resources

Like I said earlier, there are a TON of resources dedicated to making the lives of service members and their families easier. Check out CORT’s list of resources in their article Top 7 Tips for a Winter PCS Move.
