Clearing your acne
Coconut oil
This is a must have product for me. I use it for my hair and skin. Coconut oil is a great natural makeup remover and moisturizer (I only use it before bed). I had always been careful to use oil-free products. Everyone always said it would break me out worse. They were so wrong. The right oils really are amazing on your skin. This is the exact brand I use from Amazon.
Plus there are so many other things you can use it for! Check out this article to find our 101 uses for coconut oil by Wellness Mama.

Cleansing
There are so many cleansers out there that would work for me for a while but then would quit working. I found the recipe below somewhere online a while back and decided to give it a try. And I love it! It’s very gentle on my sensitive skin and has really helped clear up my acne.
1 C. warm water
1 T. coconut oil
2 T Dr. Bronners Castile Soap. This is natural soap and it very powerful so just make sure you dilute it before you use it.
Mix in a foam dispenser and it’s ready for use.
Moisturize with Argan oil (100%)
I love Josie Maran’s argan oil and pretty much the entire line because the products are really good foracne-pronee skin. I use this as a moisturizer in the morning because I don’t really want to go around smelling like coconuts all day and this has a much lighter smell. Moroccan’s have used this stuff for it’s healing properties for at least a couple thousand years for a reason. I honestly don’t know one person that has used argan oil that doesn’t love it or has had a bad reaction from it.

Use good makeup
I use bareMinerals loose powder foundation and primer. It is an amazing mineral-based makeup. I have tried other foundations and primers, but they all cause me to break out. I have used bareMinerals off and on for about seven years, but now I won’t use anything else. It provides good coverage, has SPF, and is great on your skin. There are many other great mineral makeup brands out there. I just prefer this brand. This stuff is all natural, ground minerals from the earth. I just love natural products (if you couldn’t tell).
For a concealer, I use Josie Maran’s Argan Creamy Concealer Crayon. You can find this great concealer here. Most concealers look cakey over your acne, but this doesn’t do that. I used to hate concealers because it was so obvious that I was wearing makeup. It took me years of trial and error to find this wonderful product that not only makes your skin look great but heals your acne as well.
Aztec clay mask
I recommend Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay. The reviews say it all. Mix with raw Apple Cider Vinegar and use 1-2 times a week. Let it sit on your face for about 20-30 minutes, but don’t let it get completely hard before washing it off. It really gets uncomfortable when it’s dry. This is another natural product people have used for centuries.
Sometimes when I don’t have time for a mask I just make a thin mixture and wash my face with it. Also adding 1-2 T. of apple cider vinegar (raw with the mother) to a glass of water a day can help with weight loss and improving your complexion, just to name a couple of the many uses for it.
Dark Marks
My acne got so bad while I was pregnant (I hadn’t started using my routine yet) and it left me with dark marks everywhere. I started using Ole Henriksen’s 3 Little Wonders daily and the Microdermabrasion system. Followed by Vitamin C Youth Activating Oil once a week. The spots faded significantly after about two months.
I also got my mom a mini kit of this for Christmas and now she is in love with it as well. I’ve meant to buy the Microdermabrasion again because it made my ice pick scars less noticeable, but they are still visible. I’ll update this post and let you know how it works out.
Other Tips
Drink more water
I know it’s hard, but it’s worth it. Our bodies are made up of about 60% water. That means we really need drink enough. It’s no wonder our skin looks unhealthy when our bodies are unhealthy as well.
Eat clean
Yes, again not easy, but just try adding a couple of fruits and vegetables to your daily diet when you are just starting out. I prep and freeze fruits and veggies for smoothies once a week and just blend them up with flax seeds, chia seeds, oats, honey, almond milk, and orange juice every morning and drink it for breakfast.
Get moving
Even if it is just a walk. It helps you sweat and release toxins from your body.
Quit stressing
And just trust everything is going to work out! Have you ever noticed that your acne gets worse when you’re stressed?
I have wasted so much money over the years on fancy skin care products trying to find what works! Most of these products I’ve included in this post are all natural or close to it. Most skin care products and makeup contain chemicals that are horrible on our skin so no wonder they don’t help or worse, cause us to break out more!

hi! i’m about to be 18. i know i’m still a teen so hormones still influence my breakouts and such, but i’ve tried many many different acne washes and cleaners and moisturizers and have yet to find one that works well on my skin. my face has had acne since about 5th grade and here i am as a senior still dealing with it :/ i always feel really insecure because all my friends have beautiful complexions and i’ll have these big pimples here and there on my face and then of course there’s little ones scattered. i also have yet to find good face makeup that works well with my oily skin. so i read this article and am so excited to try out your methods and hope that it works! you’re awesome for writing this!!
I can sympathize 100%. Some people can eat really bad, never wash their faces and still have awesome looking skin. Not fair lol! I hope my methods help you like they have helped me ?
I tried the clay mask once before and it got really hard. I haven’t tried it since because I figured that’s just the way it was. I’ll give it a try again. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi, Kay. Yea, the mask starts to hurt and really dries your skin out when it’s left on too long. I hope it works better for you this time around ?
