Back when I started my making money online venture in 2016, I was a single mom with a young daughter. All I wanted was to stay home with her, but I had no idea how to make that happen. I knew I needed a change, but I wasn’t sure where to start.
One day, while scrolling through Pinterest, I came across a blog post titled, “How I Made $10k a Month in My First Year of Blogging.” I read it and thought, “I can do this.” The woman behind the post was relatable, open, and honest. She shared her story in a way that made me believe it was possible for me, too. That was a pivotal moment for me.
I remember thinking, “If I ever teach others, I want to do it just like her—open, honest, and truly helpful.” So, I took the leap and started my own online business. It was scary, and I had no idea what I was doing, but it was the best decision I ever made. Fast forward to today, and I’ve sold over 60,000 digital products and built a business that allows me the freedom to be home with my kids and live life on my own terms.
This journey was about creating a life I could control, not just making money. That’s why I’m passionate about helping others take the same leap. Today, I want to share the real reasons to start an online business—reasons that go beyond just income and can truly change your life.
1. You want to take control of your time
Starting an online business means you finally get to dictate your schedule. No more rushing through mornings, juggling everything for someone else’s agenda, or feeling guilty for taking a day off. Whether you’re an early bird, a nap-time hustler, or a night owl, you can work whenever it suits you. This is freedom — the freedom to prioritize family moments, self-care, or simply taking a break when you need it. You’re in charge.
2. You crave something that’s yours
There’s something incredibly empowering about building something from scratch. When you create a product and see someone choose to buy it, it’s not just about the sale. It’s about the validation that what you created matters, that you brought something valuable into the world. This sense of ownership and pride gives you purpose, confidence, and a deep sense of accomplishment. It’s your creation, and that’s powerful.
3. You don’t want to trade hours for dollars forever
No matter what you do — whether you’re a stay-at-home mom, working full-time, or juggling both — there’s only so much you can earn if you’re always trading your hours for dollars. That’s the reality of a traditional job. With a digital business, however, one product can keep selling, even when you’re not actively working. It’s the leverage you need to escape the hamster wheel and unlock true earning potential without constant time commitment.
4. You have something to say (or sell)
You might not see yourself as an “expert,” but the truth is, you have something unique to offer. Whether it’s your life experience, creativity, or a deep passion for a subject, you can create something people are eager to learn from or use. An online business gives you the platform to share your message, whether it’s through journals, planners, digital downloads, or even your personal story. There are people out there looking for exactly what you have to offer.
5. You want to build income around your life—not the other way around
One of the best parts of selling digital products is the flexibility. You don’t have to sacrifice family time or personal moments to make money. Instead, your business can work around your life. Whether you’re at home with your kids, traveling, or simply prioritizing your well-being, your business continues to operate without requiring your full-time presence. It’s about creating balance, not burnout.
6. You want long-term potential, not short-term hustle
In the beginning, yes, it takes effort. But here’s the difference: with an online business, your work has the potential to grow beyond the hours you put in. A well-crafted digital product can sell over and over again with minimal effort, creating passive income that grows over time. This isn’t a “hustle” that fades after a few months. It’s an investment in your future — one that keeps working for you even when you’re not actively working.
7. You want to prove to yourself that you can do it
This might be the most important reason of all. Starting an online business isn’t just about making money — it’s about proving to yourself that you can do this on your own. I always wanted to be able to say, “I made it on my own.”
I know this might sound a little crazy, but I remember when the Powerball jackpot hit a billion dollars. I’ll admit, I was seriously tempted to play — I mean, who wouldn’t want to win a billion bucks? But here’s the thing: I couldn’t stand the thought of relying on a lottery ticket for success. I wanted to build something that was mine, something I worked for, and something that would stand on its own. So, I didn’t play. 😅
Starting my business was all about showing myself that I had the resilience, creativity, and drive to make it happen — without relying on luck. And let me tell you, each small step I took, each challenge I overcame, made me more confident. Now, I look back and think: I did it. Something I once thought was impossible… is my reality.
And I want the same for you — the confidence to take that first step and start creating something amazing for yourself!
Want to See How It’s Actually Done?
If you’re still feeling unsure or just want someone to walk you through it all, I created a completely free 7-day online business course — something I’ve been asked to do for years. I’ve spent the last several years actually building my own planner shop (not just talking about it), and after selling over 60,000 digital products, I finally said yes to teaching what’s worked for me.
This course is my way of pulling back the curtain and showing you what’s worked for me — without fluff or filler.
I don’t hold back the info you actually need to get started. While I will offer more advanced training later, this free course is all about helping you get set up in the right direction so you can start making sales as soon as possible.
Here’s what you’ll learn inside:
-
How to pick a profitable niche
-
How to create a product people actually want
-
How to set up your shop (the simple way)
-
How to start getting traffic that leads to sales
I’m not just throwing random advice at you. I’m showing you what’s worked for me — and how you can do it too.
So what’s in it for me? Well, I hope you like my teaching style enough to buy something from me down the road 😉 — and I do use affiliate links for tools I’ve personally used for years (like Canva, Bluehost, and Shopify). But even if you don’t, I want to make sure you’re set up for success before you move on to anything more advanced.

Don’t keep putting your dreams on hold or waiting for the “perfect time.” This is your moment — and this free 7-day course will help you take that first step with clarity and confidence.
