It’s always exciting when summer rolls around. There’s nothing like being outside on a warm summer night or soaking up some sun on a bright sunny day. We all plan on doing so much but it’s easy to let the summer months fade away if we aren’t careful. Don’t let that be you! You still have a couple of months left, so make some plans!  Here are 35 awesome things to do this summer that you may not have thought about.  There’s nothing like making memories.

35 Awesome Things To Do This Summer. Such an amazing list! I honestly would have never thought of some of these things. Pinterest has all the best stuff!

1. Go on a float trip

I am originally from Missouri and float trips are on everyone’s minds there during the summer. It’s great to just float down the river with some good friends and not have a care in the world.

2. Go to a water park

Who doesn’t love water rides?  A lot of people I know hate roller coasters but love the thrill of going down the slides.  Don’t forget about the wave pool and the lazy river.

3. Go to a theme park

Roller coasters are the best! But I can only take about five or six in one day.  All that adrenaline wears me out but it’s so worth it.  I live near Busch Gardens in Florida and the SheiKra is by far the craziest one I’ve ever been on. Those 90-degree drops are intense!

4. Go parasailing

I have not done this one yet but I really want too soon.  It looks so relaxing up there and I imagine the view is wonderful.

5. Go skydiving

This would be so awesome! This is very high on my bucket list.  My friend visited Dubai and went skydiving.  She got an awesome video of her throughout the dive. They edited it to make it extra amazing. It is scary to think about, though! I love thrills but I wonder if I could actually do it!  Imagine being up there looking out into the clouds (the instructor would have to just jump with me attached while I closed my eyes).  That would definitely be an experience of a lifetime.

6. Go swimming

Yes, I know. This one is a given but I didn’t want you to forget about it.  You can’t swim enough in my opinion (unless you burn of course).  It’s so much fun and a great workout.  You could go to the pool, a creek, a lake, or a cold spring.

7. Go to the beach

You can also go to the ocean and swim.  I stick to clear and shallow beaches (sharks scare me).  And you can always just work on your tan or wait until sunset and walk along the beach.

8. Go camping

Take some friends and just go relax and enjoy nature!  Roast some hot dogs and marshmallows for smores.  Sit around the campfire and talk about life.  And there will be plenty of laughs that you will remember for a lifetime. The possibilities are endless on a camping trip!

9. Have a BBQ

You could do this every weekend if you wanted.  Alternate hosting it with your friends and chip in for some food. Grilled food just tastes amazing and who better to share it with than the people who are closest to you? You can have some games planned out and just enjoy yourselves.

10. Visit the zoo

I wouldn’t recommend going on a hot day.  I did that last summer and was ready to leave pretty quick. It’s better to just take your time and admire the wildlife.

11.  Go bowling

I am not much of a bowler but I really like when a big group of people get together and go.  It’s so fun just laughing at each other and getting a little competitive.

12. Go to a festival or carnival

There are so many festivals that you can go to during the summer. Music and film festivals are extremely popular.  These are great if you like big crowds. Renaissance Fairs are really cool too. You could also go to a carnival and become a carnie (just kidding), but my cousin actually did for about six months.  It was so weird!

13. Go fishing

Fishing is fun, especially when you catch one.  It can also be fun when you aren’t catching anything if the right people are with you.

14. Go arrowhead/ rock hunting

You may have no idea what I am talking about. Walking creeks and fields looking for arrowheads have been a huge thing for my family since I was a little girl.  My dad has found thousands of these Indian artifacts and his collection is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars!  He does tend to over do it when he goes on for miles (I sure got some good exercise as a kid).  That’s just crazy to me but that’s why he has so many. Wheretofindarrowheads.com has some great information for newbies.  Here are some in my collection.

15. Attend a convention

Who doesn’t need an uplifting word or some great advice?  There are so many great motivational speakers that can help point you in the right direction.  And don’t forget about church conventions.  I love getting together with other Christians and hearing a good message.

16. Have a paintball gun fight

There are many places that you can rent paintball guns and use their field. Get a group of people together then duck and dodge to see who survives the paintball war! Don’t forget protective gear.  Those paintballs hurt.

17. Laser tag

This is much safer than a paintball gun fight and still so much fun!  The room is usually pretty dark and you go around shooting each other’s vests.  The one with the most shots wins!

18. Volunteer in your community

There are so many great things that you can do to help the people in your community.  Our time is a valuable resource and what better to do with it than to help someone else?

19. DIY

Pinterest is by far the best place to find DIY projects.  There are so many fun things to make.  You could make a nice sugar scrub or upholster old furniture. There are millions of ideas out there to keep you busy.

20. Go ride Go-Karts or a Four Wheeler

Racing around the track is always fun but going off-road is the best!  Riding along dirt trails and jumping hills are always a good time. Be careful, though.  No crazy big hills, okay?

21. Visit a museum

This may sound boring to some people but there are all kinds of museums to visit.  Science actually proves that looking at art can do incredible things for out mind and bodies.  Check out this article by Art.Mic to see the research for yourself.

22. Go on a hot air balloon ride

I have always wanted to do this.  I was so close one time as a child but my parents didn’t want to go on it. It would be so amazing just to relax and take in the view from way up in the sky.

23. Join a local class like yoga, self-defense, or pottery

There are so many learning and fitness classes that you can attend.  You could also take a cooking class or even an archery class.  You could be the next Katniss Everdeen.?

24. Go on a road trip with some friends

You could travel the country or even stay a bit closer to home.  Hitting the open road is always an adventure. You never know what’s going to happen.

25. Go ride jet skis or go on a boat ride

You could go crazy on a jet ski or just chill on the boat. You can also go tubing! Just hold on tight.  It really hurts when you smack your face on the water (I still remember it well and it’s been a couple of years).

26. Go scuba diving

We have explored less than five percent of the ocean so there’s so much to see down there.  Not that you should just go exploring on your own.  Having a good instructor around is a great start to being on your way to becoming a treasure hunter.

27. Explore a cave

Google caves in your area. Then check it out.  Usually, the ones you find in a search are in State Park’s where there are all kinds of other things to do.

28. Take your dog to a dog park or dog beach

My dogs love getting to run around with other dogs.  They are high energy terriers so we would play ball pretty much the entire time if it were up to them.

29. Go surfing

I have never done this and I don’t think I ever will (yep, sharks). But some people love it.  To each their own.

30. Try out a new restaurant

I am a foodie through and through.  I will try anything once no matter how it looks.  There are all kinds of amazing foods that look weird.  You never know what you will like until you try it.  I thought I would hate sushi but someone took me to a sushi restaurant and I have been in love with it ever since.

31. Go horseback riding

I went once but someone was leading the horse.  That’s not much fun. But it would be so cool to just go.  I imagine it would take a bit of practice of course.  There are all kinds of ranches you can visit that will teach you how to ride.

32. Go to the movie or a drive-in theatre

It’s so much better to watch a movie in the theatre than at home most of the time.  If you have never been to a drive in you should. There’s not many of them left but depending on where you live there could be one fairly close to you.

33. Attend a comedy show

Not all comedians are equal.  I’ve been to some shows where I didn’t laugh at all but some I do.  It’s great when you attend a show with a really good comedian.  I love when they talk about real life stuff that I can relate to.  Relationship jokes are always funny.

34. Go skating

Limbo anyone? I can make it pretty far but those little kids always beat me! You could also go ice skating. There are a lot of indoor rinks that you can go to.

35. Go on a walk or a bike ride

Simple yet it will never get old.  You could do either in the city or the country.  There’s so much to see either way.

And don’t forget your camera to capture all of your great memories! I went through a couple year period where I didn’t like taking pictures but looking back I wish that I had. I am in love my Canon Rebel T5i and 50mm f/1.8 lens that I bought recently.  It takes wonderful pictures and I really don’t even know what I am doing yet. I can’t wait to see what it can do when I learn more than the basics!

You have lots to do now so have a great time and enjoy the rest of your summer!
